As we already reported in a previous article, since the 19th century Barranco Hondo already had a hermitage dedicated to San José, which had been completed in 1860 and, after being blessed, had been opened for worship in 1867. But they still had to It took many years, until 1943, for it to be elevated to a parish, which began to govern at the beginning of 1944.

In 1960, during the regency of the parish priest Fray Porfirio Pérez Pontejo and a century after its construction, the desire arose in this Email Marketing List town to restore and improve as much as possible the parish church, especially its roof. Given the neighborhood enthusiasm, work began immediately, which eventually led to the largest renovation that has been carried out in the temple since its construction.



During the works, the old altars were removed, which were replaced by new niches for the images, and the old bell tower was replaced by a tall and slender tower, which shortly after was equipped with a clock, acquired by the town's emigrants in Venezuela. Despite the economic difficulties of the time, thanks to the enthusiasm and drive of the young parish priest, with the approval of Bishop Güimarero Don Domingo Pérez Cáceres, the works undertaken were able to be completed.
